The current stay at home order is not only the best way to limit the spread of COVID-19, it provides an opportunity to spend quality time with your family and is a great time to take care of home. Below is a list of home maintenance and cleaning tips to tackle during the stay at home order which will help you enjoy the extra time being spent at home and will prevent future damage and issues down the line.

Home Maintenance Tips:

Clean Gutters – Remove leaves, pine needles, and other debris that have accumulated over the winter. Overflowing gutters and blocked downspouts can damage siding and foundations. 

Prep the Yard – Bag up any remaining dead leaves in the yard as well as any branches and rocks that could get caught in your lawn mower. 

Clean the Siding of your Home – Wash off dirt build-up on the exterior of your home to prolong the life of the siding, and to give it a nice clean look.  

Clean and Repair Outdoor Decks – Clean your deck to prevent staining and reduce the chance of rot. Check for loose boards and protruding nails to keep your deck safe.  

Caulk around Windows and Doors –  Check around your windows, doors, and corner trim to prevent water infiltration and avoid costly repairs. Re-Caulk where necessary.  

Inspect Walkways and Driveways – Seal cracks with sealant made for the specific material of your driveway or walkway to prevent further damage.  

Inspect the Roofing – Check your roofing for loose and missing shingles, worn and rusted flashing, and cracked boots around vent pipes. 

Spring Cleaning Tips

Clean out the Garage and Basement – Go through your basement and garage and designate items to donate, recycle, and throw away.

Organize and Declutter – Do a deep clean and reorganization of your refrigerator, pantry, and closets, trust me, you won’t regret it! Also, go room by room and store items that are out of season, and sell or donate items that you no longer need.

Replace Batteries and Bulbs – Check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors batteries, and walk through the house looking for bulbs that need replaced.

Brighten Up the Place – Add a fresh coat of paint to your front door or even change the color to something more lively. Swap out throw pillows on your sofa and bed for joyful, bright ones,

Bring the Scent of Spring Indoors – Set out floral candles that smell of Spring blossoms or seasonal scented oils for your diffuser. Also, have fresh flowers in the home to liven up the place visually and aromatically.

Clean Patios and Decks – Power wash and touch up areas of patio, decks, and patio furniture to brighten up your outdoor living space.
