The Do’s and Don’ts of Dealing with Loud Neighbors

We all have that one neighbor, or more of them, who keeps doing something annoying that simply goes under our skin. If you live in a secluded place, well, your problem is pretty much solved, as you can go home, close the door, and forget about everything. But what about us, who live in a building or densely poplated neighborhood? Every day is a constant struggle with neighbors who decide to do remodeling from early morning hours, their screaming kids, dogs that keep barking nonstop and similar. Yes, this gives us all a headache! Especially on those mornings when we just want to sleep in or have a relaxing evening after work. Do not worry, there is a solution which does not include fighting or finding your dream home elsewhere. Keep on reading if you want to know some of the do’s and don’ts of dealing with loud neighbors.

Do Pick Your Battles

First things first, you must be reasonable and pick your battles wisely. Of course, the easiest way to deal with your neighbors is by confronting them, but that will not take you places. You cannot complain every day about every single thing. Respect that no matter how annoying your neighbors are. Moreover, if you keep complaining to your neighbors all the time, you will end up being a pretty unpopular person on the street or in the building. This is why you must pick your battles. And pick them wisely. If there is a thing that bothers you, do not go running to that neighbor immediately. Wait a couple of days, and then, if the situation keeps repeating, try talking to your neighbors in a nice manner first.

Do Not Write Your Neighbors a Letter

In most cases, the easiest way to tell your neighbors that they are doing something wrong is by writing them a letter. This is how most people try to handle the situation. Well, yes, if you think about it, you will avoid the unpleasant conversation, avoid the fight, and hope that the problem will go away. However, if you leave that kind of letter or note at your neighbor’s door, be sure that the two of you will not be friends anymore. Actually, be sure that from that day the situation will only get worse. So, for example, if you need to find moving experts in Ohio, your neighbor will neither help you move nor help you find movers. That is why you should always talk to them first. That way, you will give them a chance to remedy and fix the situation. Who knows, maybe they were not even aware that they were causing you trouble.

Do Talk to Them First

So, if waiting for the problem to go away did not work, try talking to your neighbors. As previously mentioned, you should give your neighbors a chance to remedy the situation before making any rash decisions. Maybe they are remodeling their house because the new baby is on the way. Maybe they are selling home and their home is full of movers trying to relocate them. Or, maybe the loud music you are hearing is their daughter practicing for a concert. You will not know until you talk to them. So, try to approach them in a friendly and neighborly manner. Tell them that lately you have been hearing some noise. Maybe you can offer to help them out and finish the job more quickly and the noise will stop. Moreover, by doing this, you will be the most lovable neighbor.

Do Not Report Them

Well, do not report to others, just yet! As we mentioned earlier, you should not make any rash decisions until you are sure what you are dealing with. If the situation happened just once, try to forget about it. If it keeps repeating and disturbing your peace, try talking to them first. Almost any problem can be solved by being friendly and civilized. By reporting them at once, you will end up having lots of trouble. Let’s just say that you will no longer be friends with that person and that your other neighbors might start disliking you. Wait for a few days, talk to your neighbors and then see how things go. In the end, if nothing changes, you have every right to report them either to our landlord if you are renting, or to the police.

Do Suggest a Compromise

There are also situations where your neighbors have a legitimate reason for being noisy, and there is not much you can do about it. But still, you are annoyed by all that noise. These are usually situations where people either have band practice in their house, or they are trying to build a beautiful backyard or remodel the kitchen. In these cases, there is nothing you can do. Sooner or later, you will find yourself in a situation where you will have to do the same. And you would not want somebody to tell you to stop building just because they cannot relax. So, this is where compromise comes into the story. Try to suggest that to your neighbors. For example, you can make a deal that the construction workers will not work on weekends, or that band practices will be held only during the day, not the night, and so on.

Do Not Call the Police

By calling the police to handle your noisy neighbors, you will end up being the bad neighbor. Especially if the incident happened once, or if your neighbors had a legitimate reason for all that noise. Trust us, the only thing people hate more than a loud neighbor is the taleteller neighbor. If you call the police for every single problem you have with your neighbors, you might end up having difficulties living in the same building or on the same street. Then, with all that hostility, you will be forced to look for Verified Movers and move out. Just wait for some time, try discussing and having a friendly conversation first. However, if these things do not help, and the situation gets out of hand, nobody will blame you if you do call the police.
